After snapping shots of an event I never seem to get them up on Flickr fast enough, if ever. Yesterday I actually got my ass together by posting the images I caught of the 2008 Capital Criterium in DC. The resulting view hits that ensued were unreal.
Not that I’m concerned about my photography getting muy famous but it’s still nice for people to look at what you take pride in. Normally I get in the sub 20’s for view on my stuff with a few hitting anywhere from 30-50. I have one shot of my fixie that’s spawned a ridiculous (compared to the rest) 132 hits. Compared to others on Flickr I don’t even register but it makes me feel all warm.
Yesterday’s count had two shots at 35 hits, but the rest of the images were soldiers as well racking up a total of 424 hits! Jackpot! Once again, compared to others, I know. But these shots aren’t of me naked, they aren’t part of a shot a day for a year, and they’re definitely not from a DSLR. So I think they’ve done well for themselves. They’ve even propelled me to 2nd on Google when searching for ‘Capital Criterium photos!’ Now that’s hot.
Now if I really wanted to pursue some SEO with this I could’ve put my URL on every page, but I really don’t want to be that guy, yet! When I got something to promote I will. Yet what this shows is how timely posts on relevant topics or events can give your overall SEO presence a helluva boost. One of these days I’ll capitalize on all of these elements coming together…
