Artboredom is the
portfolio + propaganda home of Chris Huller

This site is the dictionary definition of the word sandbox. Script conflicts, FAILS, and questionable behavior all leave a pleasant aroma. On good days you can see examples of previous web + graphic design projects.

More about me if you have the time!

Gettin' My CMYK On!

When you're staring at lines of code for days on end you need visual stimulus to keep your creative brain working at peak efficiency. Here are a few posters I've created for myself for others to see. I eventually may get some of these printed to offer them for sale.

Keyword being may

Big Broken Hyphens

Extra-tasty Helvetica shirts available from the HOTKUNST webstore.

If you don't like Helvetica, there's a hyphen! And it's in the wrong place! Bad punctuation is so hot right now.

Swiss Font Porn

Trendhumping on multiple levels but when put together makes a fine shirt. Or at least one I want to wear.

The Webodega is open late to relieve you of your monetary denominations.

Dude. What's going on with your headers?

Artboredom is a reflection of my multi-faceted visualocity so I feel REALLY constricted whittling that down to just one, single representative image.

So I didn't. Give 'em a refresh and find out.

Flickr Blowin’ Up from Capital Criterium

Why timeliness is (obviously) good when trying to maximize SEO possibilities and why I feel like the popular kid on Flickr (if only for a day and in my own head).

After snapping shots of an event I never seem to get them up on Flickr fast enough, if ever. Yesterday I actually got my ass together by posting the images I caught of the 2008 Capital Criterium in DC. The resulting view hits that ensued were unreal.

Not that I’m concerned about my photography getting muy famous but it’s still nice for people to look at what you take pride in. Normally I get in the sub 20’s for view on my stuff with a few hitting anywhere from 30-50. I have one shot of my fixie that’s spawned a ridiculous (compared to the rest) 132 hits. Compared to others on Flickr I don’t even register but it makes me feel all warm.

Yesterday’s count had two shots at 35 hits, but the rest of the images were soldiers as well racking up a total of 424 hits! Jackpot! Once again, compared to others, I know. But these shots aren’t of me naked, they aren’t part of a shot a day for a year, and they’re definitely not from a DSLR. So I think they’ve done well for themselves. They’ve even propelled me to 2nd on Google when searching for ‘Capital Criterium photos!’ Now that’s hot.

Now if I really wanted to pursue some SEO with this I could’ve put my URL on every page, but I really don’t want to be that guy, yet! When I got something to promote I will.  Yet what this shows is how timely posts on relevant topics or events can give your overall SEO presence a helluva boost.  One of these days I’ll capitalize on all of these elements coming together…

Twitscoop on Travis Barker

How Twitter is being used by the media and the ensuing Twitscoop on Travis Barker’s plane crash.

As I was looking for more info on the plane crash Travis Barker and DJ AM were in last night I tried Twitscoop to see what the Twitterati were posting.  Needless to say it was a lot!  This suddenly showed that Twitter has become much more relevant to the larger media.  A lot of the posts were from news services trying to get the most up to date information out to everyone the best ways possible.

At the time of this writing Travis and Adam Goldstein (DJ AM) were in critical condition being treated for burns.  4 others in the crash had lost their lives, 2 of them crew members and the other 2 were passengers.  It’s not known who the other two were.  Let’s hope that Travis  and Adam can pull through this.  Don’t want to see Landon grow up without his dad.

Twitscoop

“All the things you do to me and everything you said - and I just cant get enough, I just cant get enough!”

I was just turned onto Twitscoop by my social-networking/mini-app litmus tester kw2dio; and by litmus tester I mean hopeless addiction and by kw2dio I mean my brother-in-law.

I remember the first tag-cloud I ever saw was from del.icio.us way back in the day. Imagine a tag cloud that changes while you look at it. In real time. From all over the world! That’s what Twitscoop is. It’s aggregating Twitter and gathering Tweets that having matching words that are “mentioned more often than usual.”

I was just watching Monday Night Football (Cowboys/Eagles) vicariously through the Twitscoop. Pretty interesting witnessing the words blow up during big plays.

Check it out. Unfortunately that’s all you’ll do for the rest of the night!
